CAN LOVE AND MUSIC REALLY UNITE US? It’s summer 1955. The repressed residents of an unnamed American town experience an AWAKENING when the leather-clad, guitar-strumming Chad rides into town.

ALL SHOOK UP is a theatrical musical featuring 24 songs from the Elvis Presley songbook. It is not a musical revue, but is a theatrical musical that tells the story of the journey of a town.

CAST SIZE: 11 – 20

  • While the characters are based on stereotypes, they are real people, struggling with real issues. Honest (yet heightened) portrayals make for more interesting storytelling. The goal is to create well rounded characters who find truth in these lyrics - often comically.

Video submissions. Same thing as the auditions. No need for a dance component - please film yourself at hip/knee level so I can see you.

Note: I have cast/called back people from video submissions so know they work! Also, if people can't make callbacks I have run those on ZOOM and cast that way. (I certainly don't want "availability to attend" to be a dealbreaker!)

TO PREPARE:

·       32 bars (1 min) of a song and a 1 min monologue.

·       Choose material that shows off your skill and personality.

CASTING NOTE: The show takes place in 1955, the beginning of a grueling civil rights movement. The writers of ASU provide this casting guidance:

“ALL SHOOK UP deals with a small town in the 1950’s that recognizes the unjustness of segregation. In keeping with this spirit, ASU was performed on Broadway with an interracial cast. However, to remove any specific casting issues your theatre group may have, it is acceptable to perform an alternate version of ASU in which the town is divided not along racial lines, but along class lines.”

It is understood this production may choose to use these substitutions, and the published script provides approved dialogue substitutions.
