Many directors compare the comedy of Let's Murder Marsha to I Love Lucy, and it's easy to see why. Set in New York City in the mid-1980s, the play follows Marsha, a cheerful housewife with an obsession for murder mystery novels. Her husband, Tobias, can't stand her fascination with crime stories, convinced they're giving her dangerous ideas. To keep the peace, their maid, Bianca, helps Marsha secretly stash away her growing collection of mystery books.

Everything changes when Marsha overhears Tobias making plans for her upcoming birthday with an attractive woman named Persis. Taken completely out of context, the conversation convinces Marsha that Tobias and Persis are having an affair—and worse, plotting to murder her. The truth, however, is far less sinister: Persis is an interior designer helping Tobias surprise Marsha with the birthday gift of her dreams—a seaplane.

Certain she's the intended victim, Marsha puts all those murder mysteries to work. Determined to strike first, she devises a plan to eliminate Tobias and Persis before they can get to her. Enter Virgil, the kind-hearted pharmacist next door. After convincing him she's fallen in love with him, Marsha persuades the unsuspecting Virgil to help her concoct a deadly poison for the pair, setting off a whirlwind of misunderstandings, mistaken motives, and nonstop farcical comedy.

Characters:

Marsha Gilmore - Late 20s to mid 30s. A New York City housewife. Addicted to reading murder mystery novels that let her imagination go wild. A bit scatterbrained.
Tobias Gilmore - Late 30s to late 40s. Marsha's husband. A Wall Street broker. Handsome and confident. Planning a surprise birthday for Marsha.
Bianca - Can range from 20s to 40s. The Gilmore's maid. Funny/witty. Thinks she is quite smart, but actually just makes things a bit worse. Doesn't understand Marsha's scatterbrain. Could be someone who is not American.
Persis Devore - 30s/40s. An interior designer. Fashionable. Helping Tobias with the interior of the seaplane.
Virgil Baxter - 40s/50s. The Gilmore's neighbor. A pharmacist (or so we think). Slightly shy or maybe nerdy. Decides to help Marsha.
Lynette Thoren (arrives in Act 2) - 50s/60s. Marsha's mother who stops by for dinner during the middle of the chaos. Elegant.
Ben Quade (arrives in Act 2) - Can range from 20s to 40s. Bianca's boyfriend. A police officer. Becomes confused by what is going on at The Gilmore's place.
