The Three Musketeers

A co-production between the Archive Theater and Austin Scottish Rite Theatre, this fantastic production will return audiences to the world they loved in our 2019 Cyrano de Bergerac. In Alexandre Dumas’ classic coming-of-age story, D’Artagnan sets out for Paris to make their fortune accompanied only by hopes and dreams, an old yellow horse, and an empty purse. Along the way, they meet the best of friends, the fiercest of enemies, as well as a love that will change their life forever. Jennifer Rose Davis’ new adaptation of The Three Musketeers is brought to life in a splendid, swashbuckling, period spectacle with live music.

Auditions for The Three Musketeers will be May 10-12 at Berkley United Methodist Church (F) and Austin Scottish Rite Theater (S and Sun). Callbacks will be at the Director's home on Tuesday, May 14th.

If you have never auditioned for the Archive Theater before, our auditions are formatted more like a callback. You will work from sides and play against each other in the audition. We'll have actors available to play against anyone who ends up in a solo audition slot. You are welcome to sign up with a friend and rehearse in advance or to show up early to rehearse if you end up working with someone you don't know. Audition slots will be 15 minutes and we'll ask you which sides you want to work for the roles you are interested in. Some of the sides contain intimacy stage directions (because they will be used in the play). Please do not perform the intimacy in auditions because we don’t want you to be uncomfortable working with people. If you choose to use a hug please talk it over with your scene partner beforehand and make sure you are both comfortable with what you are presenting.

You may be asked if you are available to stay to work in a second slot with another actor (no is a completely acceptable answer). Our callbacks are like a fun party with food where we play combinations of people against each other until the cast reveals itself. We only work with local Austin talent and all cast and crew positions will be paid. Casting sites please DO NOT REPOST.

The show will be rehearsing in July and August and running in August/September. We'll be looking for 12 actors and 2 swing actors. Most roles will include stage combat. Actors will be paid a stipend of $300 plus tips collected weekly and divided among the cast. If the play is financially successful we will also assign bonuses at the end of the process.

We are open to inclusive casting for all roles in the play and highly encourage actors of all races, ethnicities, genders, and nonbinary/gender non-conforming to apply for the roles they love. We are attempting to write our character descriptions in a non-restrictive way, but please pardon the gender-specific titles that are written in the original play. These will be changed in the final production to match the actors cast in the roles.

The show will be historically and elaborately costumed and staged at Austin Scottish Rite Theater to the mid-17th century to match the setting of Alexandre Dumas' play.
