Gilbert & Sullivan Austin
Audition Notice
Patience 2026 GSA
|
Patience (1881) is Gilbert & Sullivan’s satire of artistic fads and the chaos of a small English village suddenly besotted with aesthetic poetry. Two rival poets: one languid and ethereal, the other intense and worldly, compete for the devotion of twenty lovestruck fans, while the military men who adore them attempt to dramatically and hilariously fit into the new, Oscar Wilde-inspired aesthetic.
Although Patience is a satire of the Aesthetic Movement, its themes feel very modern. We live in a world overflowing with curated identities; Gilbert & Sullivan remind us that behind every curated identity, Victorian or modern, is a human being trying to understand love. Patience is a reminder that authenticity is not only refreshing but essential. We invite you to be part of this production, under the stage direction of Carol Brown and music direction of Jeffrey Jones-Ragona. Gilbert & Sullivan Austin’s summer grand productions are fully staged, with a fully built set, live orchestra, and richly designed gorgeous costumes.
