The Wildwood Theatre is thrilled to announce auditions for our fall production of Next to Normal, directed by Sarah Catcher.

All company members will need to be vaccinated; a booster is optional.

The Audition

Please prepare 32 bars from a contemporary-style musical or pop/ rock song for the audition and bring a copy of the sheet music. We will also have sheet music available if you would prefer to sightread. An accompanist will be present.

Prepare a dramatic monologue of no more than two minutes. We will have some sides available for those that would feel more comfortable with a cold read.

Character Breakdowns

Diana: Struggles with severe and persistent mental illness. She is determined to make her family perfect but is tortured by a death in the family.

  • Woman.

  • Vocal range mezzo/belter G3-F#5.

Dan: Diana's husband. He is genuine. Though a constant in Diana's tumultuous life, he has grown tired and weary.

  • Vocal range bari/tenor Ab2-B4.

Natalie: An accomplished pianist and hardworking student, her struggles are exacerbated by her mother's behavior.

  • Diana & Dan's troubled daughter.

Gabe: Dashing, athletic, and bright. He is a playful man and everything a mother could imagine.

  • Diana & Dan's son.

Henry: The all-around musician, philosopher, and slacker. He has an intoxicating capacity for sympathy and romance.

Dr. Madden/Dr. Fine: Diana's psychiatrist. He is quite assured in his practice and considered somewhat of a rock star.

Auditions and Rehearsals will be held at the Center for Performing Arts and the production will be at The Capri Theatre.
