General Audition Dates

Monday, May 11 6pm-9pm

General Show Information

  • All roles are open to any actors of ANY ethnicity or gender presentation, except as required by the license of the show (author). Those interested in La Gringa must be able to speak Spanish fluently. Preference will be given to Latino actors who are native Spanish speakers. 
  • AEA candidates will only be considered for the role of Winston in 1984; otherwise all roles are non-AEA and considered volunteer with a paid stipend ranging from $400-$1200, depending on the size of the role and the length of the play (short run vs. longer runs)
  • All rehearsals will be held either at ETP’s theater space in Aloha OR at the Hilton Garden Inn (where auditions take place)
  • The standard rehearsal schedule is five days a week, Sunday-Thursday, 6:30pm-9:30pm 
  • Most full shows have a six week rehearsal period. Actors have the Monday before opening off to take a deep breath prior to opening 
  • Cast members will be called when needed, but the schedule is subject to change
  • Full Show runs are 4 shows per week. Performances for full show runs are: 
    • Fridays at 7:30pm
    • Saturdays at 1pm and 7:30pm
    • Sundays at 2pm
  • Productions will follow ETP’s Wellness Guidelines for all rehearsals and performances

AND THEN THERE WERE NONE

By Agatha Christie

Directed by Saren Nofs Snyder

First read: August 3, tech rehearsal Sept 13

Opening night Sept 18; closing Oct 18

Casting Breakdown: 10 actors, 20s-70s 

Show note: this play will be presented with British, Irish and Scottish dialects. If you have a good one to share, please audition with one of these dialects. This is an immersive production with no audience participation or interaction. 

SHOW DESCRIPTION: Considered one of Agatha Christie’s darkest and most captivating masterpieces, And Then There Were None follows ten strangers who are lured to a remote, isolated mansion on Soldier Island by a mysterious host. Cut off from the mainland by a terrible storm, the guests discover that their host is missing—and that each of them is accused of a terrible crime. As tensions rise, they are murdered one by one in accordance with a sinister nursery rhyme framed in every room. Paranoia sets in as the surviving guests race to unmask the killer among them before time runs out and there are none left. 

 

THE RISE OF HOUDINI (limited run) 

Written & Directed by Alisa Stewart

First read: Sept 15; tech Oct 22

Four shows only: Oct 23, 24, 30 & 31

Casting Breakdown: 3 men, 4 women, 20s-40s

Show note: the production features a real magician, who is featured in the show. There is a lot of improvisation required for this show as it is partially scripted, partially improvised. There is limited audience interaction. 

 

LA GRINGA  (limited run)

Directed by Julia Martinez-Peterson

First read: Sept 27; tech Nov 8

Opening night: Nov 13; closing Nov 22 (9 shows only) 

Casting: Spanish-speaking actors, 3 women, 2 men, 18-60 years old

Show note: Spanish-speaking actors are encouraged to audition, with preference given to Hispanic actors. The production will be fully in Spanish with English subtitles. 

 

A DRUNK CHRISTMAS CAROL Vol 5: Marley’s Return   (limited run) 

Conceived by Alisa Stewart, based on the novel by Charles Dickens

Directed by Patrick Short

First read: Nov 15; tech Dec 6

Four shows only: Dec 11, 12, 18, and 19

Casting: Ensemble members of 5 women, 4 men to play all roles from the classic story (Dickens and Scrooge have already been cast)

Show note: most of this show is improvised, so strong improvisation skills are required. There is a lot of audience interaction and participation. 

 

1984

By George Orwell; adapted by Duncan Macmillan and Robert Icke 

Directed by Alisa Stewart

First Read: Nov 29;  tech Jan 17

Opening: Jan 22; closing Feb 21 

Casting: 6 men, 2 women, 30s-60s, and 1 6-year-old-presenting boy. AEA actor considered for Winston. 

Show note: this show is graphic and disturbing, with a torture scene, loud jarring sounds, and occasional strobe-like lighting. There is no audience interaction, but the audience may react horrified at some of the scenes. We encourage you to read this NY Theatre Guide’s 2017 review of this version of the play, so you are well informed. 

 

FLANAGAN’S WAKE

Conceived by Jack Bronis

Directed by TBD

First Read: Feb 1; tech Feb 27

Opens March 5; closing Mar 21 

Casting: 4 men, 3 women, age range 20s-60s.

Show note: this is a part scripted, part improvised comedy. Actors auditioning for this show should have medium-strong improvisational skills. 

 

THE VELVET GENTLEMAN

Casting 3 men, 1 women, age range 30s. 

Show note: this immersive production relies heavily on the audience's curiosity. Some interaction, but most of the show is video projected.

Note that you will be asked to upload a copy of your headshot and resume during this process. If you do not have electronic copies, you may bring paper copies with you to your audition. 

  1. Please prepare one of each of the following: 
    1. One contemporary (1930s-present) comic monologue, 90 seconds or less in length; and 
    2. One contemporary (1930s-present) dramatic monologue, also 90 seconds or less in length

NOTE: some of our shows involve dialects (RP for And Then There Were None, Irish for Flanagan's Wake, and French for The Velvet Gentleman). If you have a firm grasp on a dialect, we invite you to show it!
