Frank Theatre 2025-26 Season AEA auditions Audition Notice

Frank Theatre is a professional theatre company committed to producing unique work that stretches the skills of the artists who create the work while simultaneously challenging the everyday perceptions of the audience through the exploration of ideas and issues of social, political and/or cultural concern. Frank was founded with the desire to produce work that provides opportunities for artists to grow, to stretch, to work outside of and beyond the typical opportunities provided by theatres with a greater commercial interest. The theatre has successfully pursued this goal through the consistent staging of works that require the actors, designers, and director to challenge themselves and each other. The theatre is a Twin Cities' based company, founded in 1989 by Artistic Director Wendy Knox. In its 36 year history, the theatre has staged nearly 80 productions; recent works include Martyna Majok's SANCTUARY CITY and IRONBOUND, and the world premiere of Trista Baldwin's FETAL.

THE 2025-26 season will consist of Bertolt Brecht's THE RESISTIBLE RISE OF ARTURO UI and the area premiere of Lucy Kirkwood's THE WELKIN.

ARTURO UI, which Bertolt Brecht's describes as a "gangster play that would recall certain events familiar to us all," is a savage satire of Hitler's rise to power, set in the city of Chicago. His compelling parable play continues to have relevance wherever totalitarianism appears today. It will be presented in a non-traditional space in the former Calhoun Square, Oct. 31-Nov. 23.

In THE WELKIN, set it rural England, the country waits for Halley’s Comet. A young woman has been sentenced to hang for a heinous murder. When she claims to be pregnant, a jury of twelve women from the village are sequestered to determine whether she is telling the truth or looking for a way to escape the noose. 'A superb new history play - a feminist courtroom drama that's equal parts Twelve Angry Men, The Crucible and The Vagina Monologues, plus a dash of searing, up-to-the-minute political and social commentary... a warm, humane and very funny piece, firmly anchored in women's everyday experience." --Broadway World" THE WELKINwill be presented at Gremlin Theatre in St. Paul, March 6-29, 2026.

AUDITIONS WILL BE HELD MONDAY, AUGUST 25, from 4:00-10:00, and TUESDAY, SEPT 2 from 1:00-5:00 and 6:00-10:00 (AEA members have priority on the Sept 2 date, but we will schedule people as able). Please prepare a 2 minute monologue and bring a photo and resume. Auditions will be held in the Frank Theatre rehearsal space, located in suite 208 of the Ivy Building for the Arts, 2637 27th Ave S, Minneapolis.
