- Adult. Narrator of the story. One of Mary Poppin's dearest friends, and an everyman. He has great charm. Strong singing, acting, and movement.
- Adult. The father of Jane and Michael Banks, a Banker to the very fiber of his being. Demanding "precision and order" in his household, loves his pipe and slippers at home, and doesn't have much to do with his children. He believes he had the perfect upbringing by his own Nanny, the cruel Miss Andrew. Behind his emotional;l armor lies a sensitive soul. Sings a bit, strong actor.
- Adult. George's wife and Jane and Michael's mother. A former actress, she is loving and a distracted homemaker as she tries to live up to George's desire to only associate with the "best people." She strives to be the model wife and mother. She struggles with feelings of inadequacy at being "Mrs. Banks" however she is practically perfect for the role. Great warmth, simplicity, and strong actress.
- Child/Teen - High spirited daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Banks. Bright and precocious, but can also be snobby and willful.
- Child - Cute and cheeky son of Mr and Mrs Banks, and little brother to Jane. Excitable and naughty, he adores his father and tries to be like him. Both he and Jane often misbehave to try to gain attention from their parents.
- Adult. Jane and Michael's Nanny at the beginning of the show - totally overwhelmed and upset and has had her fill of the Banks children.
- A neighborhood fixture and hero who is respected and observant of household on his beat. Also in Ensemble numbers.
- Adult. The haughty next-door neighbor of the Banks Family who treats her own dog, Willoughby, as if he were a child. Also in Ensemble numbers.
- Adult - A retired Royal Navy man and neighbor of the Banks Family. He speaks in Navy jargon and has a soft spot for his neighbor, Miss Lark. Also in Ensemble numbers.
- Adult - Housekeeper and Cook for the Banks Family. Overworked and harassed she often complains that the house is understaffed. Her intimidating exterior is cover for the warmth underneath. She doesn't hold a high opinion of Nannies in general, and Mary Poppins in particular.
- Houseboy to the Banks Family. Lazy, sleepy, and grumbling he never gets things right and believes himself to be useless.
- Adult - Jane and Michael Banks's new Nanny. Extraordinary and strange, neat and tidy, delightfully vain yet particular, and sometimes a little frightening., but always exciting. Always means what she says. Strong singer with precise and very articulate diction.
- Adult- Uniformed and officious, he makes sure no one breaks park regulations. His life is defined by rules, but he secretly hankers after his childhood. Also in Ensemble numbers.
- The statue posed with a dolphin in the park. Neleus was separated from his father, Poseidon, and misses him very much. A lonely being, happy to befriend Jane and Michael. Strong Dancer. Also sings and in Ensemble numbers.

- Owns a magical gingerbread shop. She is mysterious and speaks with an accent of her choosing (any accent that makes her seem larger than life and exotic). Strong Singer and Mover. Also in Ensemble numbers.
- George (Mr. Banks) overbearing and scary Nanny who has a bottle of nasty brimstone and treacle to keep naughty children in line. A bully who only knows one way of doing things, her way. Strong singer (operatic soprano). Also in Ensemble numbers.
